NTU
Archery Club rises to the occasion again. With recent successful campaign
at Shah Alam, NTU Archery Club clinched top spots and swept majority of
the medals in various categories at Pesta Sukan 2000 (Archery).
Pesta Sukan 2000 (Archery) was held from 13 August to 20 August at Gloucester Archery Range, Portsdown Road. The competition saw teams like NUS, ITE-Yishun, Potong Pasir CC, ACS and etc. participating in various categories. The sun was blazing with strong wind blowing across the competition ground on the first day of competition and rainy condition on the last day of competition. These unfavourable weather conditions did not stop our archers from performing. With a fine display of skills and discipline, our archers in the Standard Class category gives NTU a good head start by winning almost all the medals in both individual and team events, giving their opponents no chances at all. In the Beginners Class, our Year 1 archers put up a fierce fight. Despite being new to archery, our Year 1 archers showed great confidence when against their opponents whom which some of them have at least a year of experience. In preparation for this competition, our archers underwent three weeks of intense training. The training paid off with our archers winning silver and a bronze for this category. Many others were also highly ranked. The highlight of the competition is our senior archers competing in the metal bow categories. The target distances are further which make it more challenging. There was also an Olympic elimination round which really increase our adrenalin level as every shot is made. Our archers did exceptionally well and they also earned a lot of medals. When receiving our medals from Mr Bill Wee, President of Archery Association of Singapore, we really feel proud when NTU is being announced over the speakers repeatedly. Team captain, Ng Keng Boon, fourth year MPE student, said, “This is our best results in Pesta Sukan ever.” Though NTU Archery Club achieved very good results compared to previous year, yet we realised that many opponents are improving tremendously. It is important for us now to train even harder in order to achieve better results in future competition and let NTU remains on the road of glory…… |
